Today’s draft Victorian Default Offer provides some welcome bill relief, but many consumers could save more by switching to cheaper competitive market deals, according to the peak body for retailers.
The Australian Energy Council’s Chief Executive, Louisa Kinnear, said, “The VDO is designed to be a safety net rather than the best deal available.
“If you take the time to check the market and switch you can expect to make meaningful savings.
“It is encouraging most Victorians are already on competitive deals, but we encourage anyone who hasn’t made the move to contact your retailer to see if they have a better deal for your circumstances.
“You can also compare prices by going on to the independent Victorian Energy Compare (www.compare.energy.vic.gov.au) website. There will be competitive deals that can provide real savings.”
About the Australian Energy Council
The Australian Energy Council (AEC) is the peak body for energy retailers and generators operating in competitive markets.
Our members generate and sell energy to over 10 million homes and businesses and are committed to delivering a reliable, affordable and decarbonised energy system for consumers.
The AEC supports net zero by 2050 and recognises the electricity sector’s role in reducing Australia’s emissions. Our members are major investors in renewables, firming and storage technologies that are critical to ensuring customers continue to receive reliable and sustainable energy supply as we navigate the energy transition.
The Australian Energy Council (AEC), the peak body for energy generators and retailers, says it supports government initiatives that improve energy affordability for consumers, but believes the Solar Sharer Offer is a missed opportunity to deliver broader benefits.
The peak body for electricity retailers, the Australian Energy Council, said it was disappointed by the Government's lack of consultation on its Solar Sharer announcement.
Our organisations, representing peak industry bodies across the electricity value chain, have backed the consultative process undertaken by the Federal Government-appointed expert panel as providing the best opportunity to reach coherent and enduring energy policy that will deliver the energy transition beyond 2030.
