Energy industry congratulates Josh Frydenberg and thanks Greg Hunt

19 July 2016

The energy industry has congratulated the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP on his appointment as Minister for the Environment and Energy, and thanked former Environment Minister, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, for his work with the sector.

Australian Energy Council’s Chief Executive, Matthew Warren, said “Minister Frydenberg has shown a strong understanding of the substantial transformation required in the energy sector along with the challenges it faces, since he was first appointed to the energy portfolio in September 2015.

“It is critical that the technical, financial and policy challenges of decarbonising energy supply and the economy continue to be addressed. Combining energy and environment in a single portfolio allows for a holistic, integrated approach to national energy and climate change policy.

“The energy industry looks forward to continuing to work with Minister Frydenberg in his new, expanded portfolio.”

Mr Warren also thanked Minister Hunt for his considered management of the environment portfolio since his appointment in 2013, and in the shadow portfolio prior to that time.  His tenure oversaw many challenging policy debates and negotiations with the sector and his constructive engagement was greatly appreciated.

The energy industry wishes Minister Hunt well in his new portfolio.
