The Australian Energy Council congratulates and thanks Audrey Zibelman for her leadership of the Australian Energy Market Operator over the past four years.
The Australian Energy Council’s Chief Executive, Sarah McNamara, said Ms Zibelman would leave a mark as head of AEMO, and as a contributor to the work of the Energy Security Board.
“Ms Zibelman was appointed to the role at a pivotal time for both the market operator and the energy industry broadly.
“A significant challenge was undoubtedly managing reliability and system security in a rapidly changing grid as more renewables entered the National Electricity Market (NEM).
“In particular, Ms Zibelman guided the development of the NEM’s first Integrated System Plan, which was designed as a whole-of-system roadmap to respond to this shifting energy dynamic and to guide future developments.
“Ms Zibelman brought to the role new ideas and an enthusiasm for change. This resulted in many robust debates with industry. Ms Zibelman’s passion for evolving the industry was her driving force and we respected her intentions and focus.
“We wish Ms Zibelman well in her new role.”
About the Australian Energy Council
The Council represents 22 major electricity and downstream natural gas businesses operating in the competitive wholesale and retail energy markets. These businesses collectively generate the overwhelming majority of electricity in Australia, sell gas and electricity to over 10 million homes and businesses, and are major investors in renewable energy generation.
The latest assessment of our energy system points to the urgency of getting sufficient firming capacity in place to back up the transformational injection of renewables into our grid, according to the peak body for energy retailers and generators, the Australian Energy Council.
The electricity sector continues to do the heavy lifting in efforts to reduce Australia's carbon emissions and meet its climate targets, according to the peak body for electricity generators, the Australian Energy Council.
The Australian Energy Council's Board has appointed AGL Energy's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Damien Nicks, as its new Chair.
